For the prime universe counterpart, please see Zefram Cochrane.

Zefram Cochrane was the first Terran to make First Contact with members of an alien species. On April 5, 2063, a Vulcan ship landed on Earth in Bozeman, Montana. When a member of the Vulcan crew exited the vessel to greet the humans, Cochrane took out his shotgun and killed the alien, allowing his comrades to board the Vulcan ship and steal Vulcan technology. His actions would result in the early expansion of the Terran Empire.

In 2155, Commander Jonathan Archer expressed his admiration for Cochrane's actions and was even in possession of the gun that Cochrane had used to shoot the Vulcan. (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly")

Cochrane was played by James Cromwell, who appeared through the use of uncredited archive footage from Star Trek: First Contact. In shots where Cochrane wields the shotgun, the role was played by an uncredited stand-in.
Zefram Cochrane was likely the first Human to achieve warp flight, much like his counterpart in a parallel universe. Just as in the series' regular opening credit sequence, a clip of Zefram Cochrane's ship, the Phoenix, from Star Trek: First Contact, is seen in the altered opening credit sequence created for ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly".
