Yamok Sauce is a popular Cardassian condiment.
Yamok sauce references
- Yamok sauce first appeared shortly after the Federation took over Deep Space 9. Rom ordered 5,000 wrappages of the sauce, which were worthless without Cardassians to consume it. Nog was able to acquire the sauce, and he and Jake Sisko traded it to a Lissepian captain for 100 gross of self-sealing stem bolts. (DS9: "Progress").
- Aamin Marritza mentions that his sem'hal stew could use a little yamok sauce. (DS9: "Duet")
- Yamok sauce was also adapted to serve with Terran food, and was found to be enjoyable served with asparagus. (DS9: "By Inferno's Light")
- It could also be eaten on sand peas. (DS9: "The Way of the Warrior")
- Quark, in anticipation of a Dominion takeover of DS9, smuggled in 10,000 wrappages of the sauce, which was promptly dumped by station officials when discovered. (DS9: "Call to Arms")
- During the Dominion occupation, Quark acquired ten crates of yamok sauce that he wanted Rom to unpack. (DS9: "Behind the Lines")
Background Information
Yamok sauce apparantly cannot be replicated by DS9's food replicators. Aamin Marritza compliments the station's replicators on an excellent sem'hal stew (no doubt because they were Cardassian replicators) but goes on to complain that the stew could use a little yamok sauce, indicating that the replicators could not replicate it for him ("Progress"). Also, the fact that Quark occasionally purchase yamok sauce, instead of simply replicating it indicates that the replicators were unable to produce the sauce. This property of the sauce, however, is never made explicit.
