William Newman (15 June 193427 May 2015; age 80) was the actor from Chicago, Illinois who played Kalin Trose in the Star Trek: The Next Generation fourth season episode "The Host" in 1991. He filmed his scene on Wednesday 13 March 1991 on Paramount Stage 8.

Born as William MacLeod Newman in Chicago, Illinois, he moved to Seattle, Washington in 1937 and attended Roosevelt High School and the University of Washington where he graduated in 1956. Between 1958 and 1960 he attended the Columbia University through the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship for advanced writing study. Throughout the 1950s and 1960 he served in the Armed Forces and became a teacher for English.
