A cave-wasp is an insect native to Bajor. When a person is stung, the wasp's stinger usually becomes embedded in their neck. Their sting is known to be quite painful. Winn Adami could not recall ever being stung by one.

In late 2375, Dukat had an encounter with a cave-wasp in the Fire Caves. He tried to swat it away, but this only angered the creature, causing it to sting him. (DS9: "What You Leave Behind")
