Washington, DC, the District of Columbia, was the capital city of the former nation-state known as the United States of America, situated on the east coast of Earth's North American continent.

Maps of North America and the District of Columbia were downloaded from the USS Enterprise library computer by the Talosians in 2254. (TOS: "The Cage")

The maps were from educational texts available at the time of filming, 1964.

It was also home to the Smithsonian Institution, whose collection includes the warp-ship Phoenix, which Captain Jean-Luc Picard visited several times. (Star Trek: First Contact)

White House, Storm Front

In an alternate timeline, Washington, along with most of the upper East Coast states, was occupied by Nazi forces during World War II. During their occupation they overtook the White House, which was located there. (ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II")

The city was named after George Washington, the early American Revolutionary military leader and first President of the United States. (TNG: "The High Ground")

In 1986, after unsuccessfully interrogating Pavel Chekov on board the U.S.S. Enterprise, a FBI agent conferred with a civilian representative of the A.E.C.. The civilian suggested that they contact people in Washington for help. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)
