Washington, DC

Washington, DC

Washington, DC (District of Columbia) was the federal capital of the United States of America. The bordering states were Maryland and Virginia. (ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II")

This city was home to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, whose collection included the first Human warp-ship Phoenix, which Captain Jean-Luc Picard visited several times. (Star Trek: First Contact)

In 1930, the federal government revealed the results of a survey to the public. According to the survey, there was an exodus of individuals from the The South to the cities. A journalist based in Washington wrote an article about this survey for a New York City newspaper, which was seen briefly on Spock's tricorder. (TOS: "The Cage")

Before the federal government evacuated the city, the president made a vow to persevere. After the city's occupation, the White House became the NAZI headquarters in the United States. When the American military launched its counteroffensive, two army divisions were reported by German observers as advancing from the south on a direct course towards Washington. (ENT: "Storm Front", "Storm Front, Part II")

In 1986, after unsuccessfully interrogating Pavel Chekov on board the USS Enterprise, a FBI agent conferred with a civilian representative of the AEC. The civilian suggested that they contact people in Washington for help. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

Like most cities on Earth, Washington was devastated by nuclear weapons during World War III. (SNW: "Strange New Worlds")

In 2371, a disoriented and frightened Fred Noonan, after taking crew members hostage, requested that Captain Kathryn Janeway get in touch with Washington so he could personally speak with J. Edgar Hoover. (VOY: "The 37's")

Background information[]

The city was named after George Washington, who was a military general in the American Revolution and first President of the United States. The district was a reference to Christopher Columbus, who was a Spanish explorer.
