Cover of issue #17

Walter "Walt" Simonson (born 2 September 1946; age 77) is the husband of Marvel Comics editor Louise Jones and is a comic book artist and writer in his own right. He began drawing comics while in art school and draw a fifty-page graphic novel for his final project. In 1972, he began drawing comics professionally.

He worked for several companies (including both Marvel and DC) working on titles such as Batman, The Hulk, Hercules Unbound, and Star Wars. In 1983, he began writing and drawing The Mighty Thor, a title he stayed on and won awards for over the next few years. After his successful run on Thor, he worked on Fantastic Four for a period of time, then joined his wife in writing Havok & Wolverine: Meltdown and the X-Factor series, both for Marvel.

In 2000, he wrote and drew the series Orion for DC comics and returned to DC again in 2006 to write Hawkgirl, a series illustrated by Howard Chaykin.

He contributed two pieces of work to the Star Trek universe. The first was cover art for issue #17 of Marvel's Star Trek series "The Long Night's Dawn!". Several years later, he illustrated the article on Romulans for "Who's Who in Star Trek 2".
