The Vorian pterodactyl was a large flying animal.
In 2373, Odo lamented that he had lost his Changeling abilities when he was stranded with Quark on a L-class planet, since as a Vorian pterodactyl he could easily have flown a subspace transmitter to a high enough altitude to send out a distress call. (DS9: "The Ascent")
It was unknown how similar this animal is to a Earth pterodactyl.
According to the script, Vorian was pronounced as "VOR-ee-uhn". [1]
