Vimeo is an American video filesharing site founded in November 2004, actually shortly before its main rival, market leader YouTube, and likewise featuring Star Trek-related material uploaded by its users.
On 1 July 2015, the documentary William Shatner Presents: Chaos on the Bridge was released through Vimeo for sale and rental. This in itself was indicative of Vimeo having in the mean time become a hybrid service, to wit, a combination of a (free) video filesharing service and a commercial streaming service, contrary to its competitor YouTube, which is as of 2020 still primarily a free video filesharing service.
The French-language Téléportation 2161 - Kirk, Spock et nous was released on 5 September 2016.
Vimeo became in December 2014 the first streaming service to respond to the advent of the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray – which itself was a home video format industry response to the in high definition streaming media [1] – , and was ready to stream in 4K resolution before the first Star Trek 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Star Trek, was even released in June 2016.
