A Velociraptor was a carnivorous dinosaur that inhabited Earth during the Cretaceous period. They had extremely powerful jaws with razor like teeth. They also had large curved shaped claws on their feet.
In the mirror universe, in 2155, when Ensign Kelby was killed by the Gorn Slar, Doctor Phlox suggested sarcastically that the only way that he could have bitten by a pet is if one of the crew of the Defiant had a pet Velociraptor.(ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II")
