Apparently this crewperson remained for Kirk's command, even though the scenes where he appeared in" The Man Trap" and "The Corbomite Maneuver" was stock footage from the pilot episodes (as evidenced by his older-style uniform).

Apparently this crewperson served in the capacity of security (as seen depicted by operations personnel throughout TOS occupying this location) and was the only other crewperson to wear the unique badge insignia suggesting a security team. He was named Valdini in the novel The Rift by Peter David and he was one of many officers that perished on Argus X in 2268.
