They were immune to the disease and Phlox believed a cure could be found in studying them. They welcomed Phlox to their village and cooperated with his research. They let Phlox do a bio-scans on them. Phlox discovered that the Menk were on the verge of an evolutionary breakthrough, showing signs of increased intelligence, which might lead to them becoming the dominant species on the planet.
