Template:Realworld "Prime timeline" (or, interchangeably, "Prime reality", "Prime universe") is the unofficial name given to the main timeline of events depicted in the various Star Trek episodes and movies prior to the 2009 movie Star Trek.

This latest outing of the Trek franchise broke with the tradition of keeping all of its stories in one continuity, and instead established a new timeline, with the point of divergence being the destruction of the Federation starship USS Kelvin in 2233 by the time-traveling Nero.

The term "Prime" is derived from the films credits, where the character played by Leonard Nimoy was disambiguated from Zachary Quinto's Spock as "Spock Prime". Lacking a proper in-universe term for this "original" timeline, the moniker "prime timeline" is used on Memory Alpha, where necessary.
