Display graphic depicting the Trieste serving in Picard's fleet (2368)

The USS Trieste (NCC-37124) was a Federation Template:ShipClass starship that was in service with Starfleet in the mid-24th century.

The Trieste was a former posting of Lieutenant Commander Data. During his tour of duty aboard, the Trieste passed through an unstable wormhole. (TNG: "Clues")

The Trieste was the nearest starship to Starbase 74 in 2364, when the USS Enterprise-D was hijacked from that facility. It was suggested that the Trieste might be able to intercept the Enterprise. Unfortunately, the Trieste was determined to be too small and too slow to render assistance, on top of the fact that it was sixty-six hours away at the time. (TNG: "11001001")

In early 2367, the Trieste conducted a pulsar research project. (TNG: "Brothers")

In 2368, the Trieste formed part of the blockade fleet dispatched by Jean-Luc Picard along the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War. It was positioned between the USS Hood, USS Endeavour, USS Goddard, and USS Ahwahnee. (TNG: "Redemption II")

The class and registry were derived from an okudagram displayed in the observation lounge starting around TNG Season 4. This information appeared on the Starship mission status screen.
During one of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine kitbash rounds, a model of this ship was constructed. The ship was given the number NCC-3724. Several polaroids were taken of this ship, along with the USS Antares and the Template:ShipClass USS Excel (NCC-2020). [1] There is no evidence that this model appeared in an episode.
The Trieste was named after the Italian harbor city, and the bathyscaphe used in Jacques Piccard's dive into the Marianas Trench. (Star Trek Encyclopedia)
