In 2347, on stardate 32611.4, the Hansens took the Raven on a field mission to locate and study a rumored race of cybernetic beings from beyond the Romulan Neutral Zone known to the peoples of the Beta Quadrant as the Borg.

The Raven departed Drexler outpost. At the outpost, the Hansens didn't file a flight plan. They set a course for 234 mark 74. This was the last time that the Federation had contact with the starship. This information was recorded in the logs of Deep Space 4. It was later determined that after leaving the station, the Hansen family had disobeyed a direct order to return and had crossed into the Neutral Zone as part of their study of the Borg.

On stardate 32623.5, after tracking stray readings and sensor echoes for eight months, the Hansens were able to locate a Borg cube. On stardate 32629.4, the ship was pulled into a transwarp conduit while trailing the cube and emerged in the Delta Quadrant.

The Raven's records contained extensive notes and journals from the Hansens including over nine thousand log entries. (VOY: "Dark Frontier")

During the third year of their study of the Borg, in 2350 on stardate 32634.9, an ion storm damaged the vessel's multi-adaptive shielding. The shields went off line for 13.2 seconds, during which the Borg detected and began to pursue the Hansens. Some time after stardate 40840.211, while attempting to reach a class M planet, all three Hansens were assimilated. The ship itself was also partially assimilated before crashing onto a moon in B'omar space. The ship's remains later came under attack by the B'omar before chunks of the hull began to fall into the chasm below the cliff at the Raven's crash site. (VOY: "The Gift", "The Raven", "Dark Frontier")

The vessel's Borg components continued to emit a resonance frequency despite their damage. This resonance frequency drew Seven of Nine, who had once been Annika Hansen, to the vessel in 2374.

Voyager retrieved the Raven's records shortly before the vessel was destroyed by B'omar forces.(VOY: "The Raven")

Early production information, appearing in the form of an okudagram appearing in "The Gift", originally described this vessel as the "exploration vessel Jefferies" which departed its last known location in 2354. At this point it was relatively clear that Seven's past was not fully fleshed out, as the same source further stated "Jefferies crew consisted only of father and mother Hansen, whose names will never be visible on television, and their young daughter pictured here."

Several episodes later the ship was renamed as The Raven in "The Raven", and finally the USS Raven in "Dark Frontier".

Furthermore, the original departure date appearing on the same okudagram was determined to also not be true, when it was revealed in PIC: "Penance" that Annika Hansen was assimilated in 2350, several years earlier than originally conceived.

Apocrypha[]

The USS Raven existed in the Activision first-person shooter game Star Trek: Voyager - Elite Force developed by Raven Software as a multiplayer map patterned after the floor plan of Raven Software's developer studio in Wisconsin. The floor plan of Raven Software has appeared in several of the games they have developed, including Soldier of Fortune and Soldier of Fortune II; Double Helix.
