The USS Oberth (NCC-602) was a Federation Template:ShipClass scoutthat was in service with Starfleet in the late 23rd century. Oberth was the prototype for her class of starship.
In 2293, the Oberth was assigned to a deep-space exploration mission near Klingon territory at the time of the proposal for Operation Retrieve. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

According to a ship list included in the plans, and not seen in the extended cut of the movie, the ship was commanded by R. Morey, and the ship was located in Sector 22858.
The ship's captain may have been named the sixth movie's first assistant camera operator Rob Morey. [1]
