The USS Mekong moments before its capture by Lovok's Warbird

The USS Mekong was a Danube-class Federation starship assigned to Deep Space 9 as replacement for the USS Ganges.

In 2370, the Mekong fought alongside the Rio Grande and Orinoco against two Maquis ships at the Bryma colony. (DS9: "The Maquis, Part II")

In late-2370, Chief Miles O'Brien outfitted the Mekong with extra banks of photon torpedoes. It later assisted the USS Odyssey during its rescue attempt of Commander Benjamin Sisko, who was being held prisoner by the Dominion in the Gamma Quadrant. (DS9: "The Jem'Hadar")

In late 2371, Odo and Elim Garak took the Mekong to the Unefra system while in search of Enabran Tain. Just as the ship dropped out of warp, it detected and was subsequently captured by Lovok's Warbird. After being stored in the shuttlebay on "E" Deck, Section 25 of Lovok's Warbird, the Mekong was taken into the Gamma Quadrant. The ship was later destroyed while attempting to escape the Battle of the Omarion Nebula. (DS9: "The Die is Cast")

The Star Trek Encyclopedia lists two registries for this runabout: NCC-72617 and NCC-72917. The registry is seen briefly, yet not clearly, in "Whispers".

Named after the eponymous river in south-east Asia.
