The USS Mayflower (NCC-1621) was a Template:ShipType starship in the late 2250s. This starship was destroyed in 2258 by the Narada in the Battle of Vulcan. The wreckage of the Mayflower posed a significant navigational hazard to the USS Enterprise as the latter ship maneuvered itself through the battle field. (Star Trek)
The Mayflower was not mentioned in dialogue, and its name was only seen briefly on a piece of wreckage. A sketch of the Mayflower is part of the Star Trek (Three disc Blu-ray) special "Starships" and it is identified as resembling a Template:ShipClass ship in Star Trek - The Art of the Film.
Mayflower's registry was a homage to the year when the historical Mayflower's passengers disembarked at Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts. (citation needed • edit)
According to the novelization, the Mayflower was sent by Starfleet to investigate a 'lightning storm' in the vicinity of Vulcan. This storm marked the approach of the Narada.
