The USS Mayflower (NCC-1621) was a starship in the late 2250s. This starship was destroyed by the Narada at Vulcan in 2258 prior to the Battle of Vulcan. The USS Enterprise nearly collided with the destroyed primary hull of the Mayflower upon entering the battlefield. (Star Trek)
The Mayflower was not mentioned in dialogue, and was only seen as a wrecked starship. A portion of the name was seen briefly on the primary hull, and was confirmed by the novelization.
Mayflower's registry was a homage to the year when the historical Mayflower arrived at Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts.
According to the novelization, the Mayflower was sent by Starfleet to investigate a 'lighting storm' in the vicinity of Vulcan. This storm marked the approach of the Narada.
