The USS Hornet (NCC-45231) was a Renaissance-class Federation starship in service in the 24th century.

In 2368, the Hornet was part of the task force that blockaded the Klingon-Romulan border during the Klingon Civil War. (TNG: "Redemption, Part II")

In 2375, the Hornet put in for repairs at Deep Space 9 during the Dominion War. (DS9: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges")

This ship was named for the American aircraft carrier USS Hornet, which fought at the Battle of Midway. Furthermore, the Hornet was the ship that recovered the crew of Apollo 11 on their return from the first manned lunar landing in 1969. In "Redemption, Part II," it served alongside the USS Akagi, which was named for a Japanese carrier that also fought at Midway.
