The communications officer (lieutenant) of the Grissom served under Captain Esteban and was responsible for relaying messages back to Starfleet Command regarding their survey of planet Genesis. He died, in 2285, when the Grissom was destroyed by Kruge's bird-of-prey. (Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.)
