Later that year, the location of the Emden was labeled in the star chart for the "Operation: Retrieve" command briefing. This star chart was seen in the office of the Federation President on Earth. For "Operation: Retrieve", this starship was named as one of the ships on station in Sector 21166-8. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country set artwork)

Background information Edit
- On the plans, the Emden was represented by the silhouette of a refit Constitution-class starship.
- An unseen element from the Operation Retrieve charts included a list of starships, their registries and their commanders. According to this list, the Emden was commanded by C. Thomas; named after that film's photographic effects editor Robert C. Thomas. Emden's last reported location was in Sector 21803.
- The Decipher roleplaying game supplements stated that this vessel may have been a Ranger-class starship.
- The Emden might be named after one of several German navy ships of the same name, which were, in turn, named after the city of Emden.
