The USS Constellation (NX-1974) was a Federation Constellation-class star cruiser that was in service with Starfleet in the late-23rd century. Constellation was the prototype for her class of starship.

In 2293, the Constellation was undergoing certification trials. At this time, the vessel had an NX registry number prefix. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

The Constellation was not seen in any of its references. Reference to it appeared on the Operation Retrieve chart in The Undiscovered Country.
The first edition of the Star Trek Encyclopedia had a black-and-white drawing of this starship with the registry NCC-1974. (As well, this number was mentioned in the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion.) Okuda conjectured that this vessel was named in honor of the USS Constellation.
An unseen element from the Operation Retrieve charts included a list of starships, their registries and their commanders. According to this list, the Constellation was commanded by G. Cantemessa and its last reported location was in Sector 23006. [1]
