The USS Constantinople (NCC-43622) was a 24th century Federation starship operated by Starfleet. In 2365, Captain Richard James was the commanding officer of this colony ship.

In that year, the Constantinople suffered a major hull breach while transporting 2,012 colonists near the planet Gravesworld. Forty-six of her people suffered injuries, mostly minor. A Starfleet officer aboard the Constantinople sent out this distress call, "Mayday. This is the USS Constantinople. The outer hull is breached and environmental systems compromised." The USS Enterprise-D responded to the transport's distress call, and was able to help facilitate necessary repairs to the ship, as well as provide her with the required medical supplies. (TNG: "The Schizoid Man")

Later that year, the Constantinople was on special assignment for Terraform Command. The ship was named on the Starship Deploy Status chart in the Starbase 173 courtroom. (TNG: "The Measure Of A Man", okudagram)

Background information

The Starfleet officer aboard the ship was voiced by an unknown actor. Captain Jean-Luc Picard, in his log, described the Constantinople as a liner.

The registry was derived from the Starship Deploy Status chart seen in "The Measure of a Man".

The Star Trek Encyclopedia (3rd ed., p. 85) described this vessel as an Istanbul-class starship, with a registry number of NCC-34852, adding that it was named for the Turkish city also known as Istanbul.

An early draft of the script of The Schizoid Man identified this vessel as the Mary Rogers.
