The USS Ahwahnee (NCC-2048) was a 23rd century Federation Constitution II-class starship operated by Starfleet.

In 2278, the Ahwahnee appeared on a Starship Mission Assignments chart on the bridge of the USS Bozeman after exiting a temporal causality loop 2368. (TNG: "Cause And Effect")

In 2293, the Ahwahnee was assigned a deep space exploration mission in Sector 21835. The ship was named on a Starship Mission Assignments chart on the USS Enterprise-A bridge.

Later that year, the Ahwahnee was named as one of the ships on station in Sectors 21166-8 in the "Operation Retrieve" command briefing. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

Background information[]

The name, class, and registry were from the plans for Operation Retrieve and a starship mission status chart on the Enterprise-A bridge in 2293. From this, Michael Okuda's Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 326) listed the ship as a Constitution-class vessel.

According to a ship list included as a fourth page in the plans, but not seen in the extended cut of the movie, D. Tathwell was the commanding officer of the Ahwahnee, which was located in Sector 21835. [1] Tathwell was the maiden name of Scenic Artist Denise Okuda, before her marriage with Michael Okuda, the creator of the Operation Retrieve mission charts.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia (3rd ed., p. 470) stated that the USS Ahwahnee (NCC-71620) was named for a Native American tribe.
