Torros III was the third planet in its star system, located in Cardassian space. A Dominion shipyard was located on the planet in 2373.

At the outbreak of the Dominion War in 2373, a task force comprised of Starfleet and Klingon forces attacked and destroyed the shipyards, with a loss of over fifty Dominion ships, while Dominion forces were occupied attacking Deep Space 9. Starfleet chose to launch an attack on the shipyards rather than send reinforcements to Deep Space 9, which was lost to the Dominion. However, DS9 personnel were able to establish a minefield at the mouth of the wormhole prior to being forced from the station, which severed the Dominion's supply line from their home territory in the Gamma Quadrant.

The destruction of the shipyards at Torros III, together with the mining of the Bajoran wormhole, was an early blow to the Dominion war effort in the Alpha Quadrant. Even so, the Dominion was able to launch a successful campaign into Federation territory. (DS9: "Call to Arms")

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 46) and the Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Stellar Cartography", pp. 18-19; "Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the Torros system was a binary system of an A-class star and B-class star. According to a map of the Cardassian Union – prepared by an anonymous astrography clerk, from the Cardassian Central Archives, in 2364 – Torros was identified as a Cardassian system.
"TOR-oes" was the pronunciation for this planet's name from the script pronunciation guide for "Call to Arms".
