The Titan II was a type of rocket used by the United States during the 1960s for national defense and space exploration.

Titan II rockets were later used in the mid-21st century, during World War III, as a type of nuclear missile.

A Titan II formed the framework and launch vehicle for Zefram Cochrane's experimental warp ship, the Phoenix. (Star Trek: First Contact)

During the 23rd century, a photo of a Titan II rocket hung on a corridor wall just outside the base commander's office at Starbase 11 in 2267. (TOS: "Court Martial")

Background

The photo, appearing in "Court Martial", depicts the Project Gemini capsule on a Titan II rocket. It is one of many photos taken in 1965 and 1966 for public use by NASA.

According to the non-canon Star Trek Fact Files, the missile used as the launch vehicle for the Phoenix was a Titan V missile. The Titan V was to be a type of launch vehicle, proposed in 1988, as an upgrade of the Titan IV, but never built. In actuality, an actual Titan II, located at the Titan Missile Museum in Green Valley, Arizona, was used by the Star Trek: First Contact design team, and was therefore visually depicted in the film as a Titan II.
