A body throw, or simply throw, was a type of self-defense technique that allowed the defender to physically throw an opponent to the ground.
In 2266, James T. Kirk gave Charles Evans a lesson in proper falling techniques in the ship's gymnasium as preparation in learning how to fight. When Evans found the lesson too hard, Kirk "borrowed" Sam, another crewmember working out in the gym, to show Evans "a couple easy throws." Even though Evans thought that it "looks hard," Kirk cajoled him to try it out for himself. (TOS: "Charlie X")
In 2269, Sulu used a body throw to fend off the Phylosian Agmar. At the completion of the mission, Kirk, who observed the throw, asked Sulu if there was "any chance of teaching me that body throw? Could come in handy sometime." Sulu replied that he was not sure if he could, as "it isn't just physical, you know. You have to be inscrutable." Amused, Kirk told Sulu that he was "the most scrutable man" he knew. (TAS: "The Infinite Vulcan")
