A large Klingon fleet arrives at the station, causing problems for Sisko and his crew. As the situation deteriorates, he asks for Worf's assistance in finding the Klingons real plan. What Worf discovers will change the Alpha and Beta Quadrants forever.

Summary

From the book jacket: The entire Alpha Quadrant has been threatened with deadly infiltration by the shape-shifting Founders of the Dominion. Already the Romulans and Cardassians have been decimated by the clandestine machinations of the Founders.

Now the newly promoted Captain Benjamin Sisko of Deep Space Nine has another problem: a massive fleet of Klingon warships has arrived at DS9 on a secret mission. Unable to learn anything from an elusive Klingon general, Sisko turns to Lt. Commander Worf, formerly of the Starship USS Enterprise-D and the only Klingon in Starfleet, to try and uncover the truth.

What Worf learns will have a profound impact on the future of the Alpha Quadrant, and Sisko must risk destroying the Federation-Klingon alliance to prevent a full-scale war!

Background information

Based upon the DS9 episode "The Way of the Warrior". The novelization mostly follows the original episode, but expands on the Klingon attack on Garak by clarifying that it served the additional purpose of acquiring information on the station's defenses by accessing his computer records. However, since Garak guessed their plans, he deliberately provoked them into going after him so that he could provide them with out-of-date information on the station, thus lulling them into a false sense of security.
As this novel was written well before the revelation that Martok was a Changeling, much of his internal thoughts written in this book presuming that it is the real Martok.
