Background information

  • This book used text written variously by Anders, Nemecek, and Spelling for the Titan Magazines releases, Star Trek: First Contact - Official Movie Souvenir Magazine and Star Trek: First Contact - The Official Poster Magazine. Anders and Nemecek did interviews and features related to the various designers, writers, and other behind-the-scenes work, while Spelling worked on the actors' profiles.
  • As the buzz surrounding the film increased prior to its release, Titan Books opted to collect the works, along with more photos and design sketches, and compile them into a stand-alone volume. With Nemecek busy on other projects, including updating the Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion, the publisher chose Anders to edit the project and receive his first author's credit. Neither the book nor the magazines were sold in North America, whereas Germany saw a translated edition in 1997, which came with a movie poster.
  • Illustrator John Eaves has followed up on this work with his much more elaborate reference book Star Trek: The Next Generation Sketchbook: The Movies in 1998.
