Background information Edit

  • Author Peter David's original title for the novel was Demora; this was vetoed by Paramount's marketing department. (Voyages of Imagination. p. 107)
  • Pocket editor John Ordover later noted that the novel "did not do very well. You can argue that there were all sorts of reasons, that it wasn't clearly a Captain Sulu novel, that it was this, it was that, the title was wrong. You can give any sort of excuses but the bottom line is our most popular author did a Captain Sulu novel and it didn't sell very well." (Voyages of Imagination. p. 107)
