Terrell L. Baliel, sometimes credited as Terry Baliel, is an Emmy Award-winning hair stylist for Hollywood films and television productions. He was one of the many hair stylists on Star Trek Nemesis. More recently, he was the head of the Hair Department for Star Trek. [1]

He began his career working as an assistant hair stylist on Paramount Pictures' Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988, featuring Christian Slater and Dean Stockwell). In 1992, he won his first Emmy Award, in the category of Outstanding Individual Achievement in Hairstyling for a Miniseries or a Special, for his work on the Hallmark Hall of Fame production Miss Rose White. This movie was directed by Joseph Sargent, featured Thomas Kopache in the cast, and originally aired on NBC.

Baliel's next project was The Joy Luck Club (1993, starring Rosalind Chao and France Nuyen). His next credited film was 2000's How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which won him a Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Award for Best Innovative Hair Styling in a Feature. Baliel shared this award with fellow hair stylists Patricia Miller (who also worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home) and Gail Rowell-Ryan.

Baliel and Patricia Miller later collaborated on A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001), Planet of the Apes (2001), and Minority Report (2002), on which Baliel was a Key Hair Stylist. Baliel won another Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Award for A.I., this time for Best Character Hair Styling in a Feature and shared with fellow Star Trek hair styling veterans Candace Neal and Karen Asano-Meyers. Baliel and Neal also collaborated on Minority Report and Duplex; Baliel and Asano-Meyers previously worked together on How the Grinch Stole Christmas and have since collaborated on Star Trek Nemesis, The Prestige, and Charlie Wilson's War.

In addition, Baliel and Asano-Meyers won a Hollywood Makeup Artist and Hair Stylist Guild Award for Best Period Hair Styling in a Feature for The Last Samurai (2003). They shared this award with Janice R. Alexander, who later worked with them on The Prestige and Charlie Wilson's War (2007). Baliel and Alexander themselves collaborated on the films Flags of Our Fathers and Mr. Brooks. Baliel was Key Hair Stylist on the latter film.

Baliel was also the Hair Department Head on Meet the Fockers (2004). He was a wig stylist on The Chronicles of Riddick (2004, starring Roger R. Cross and Karl Urban) and was Anne Hathaway's personal hair stylist on The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (2004, starring Chris Pine and John Rhys-Davies). Baliel won his second Emmy Award in 2005 for her work as Assistant Hair Department Head on the HBO television series Deadwood. Among those who starred in this series were Star Trek alumni Jim Beaver, Larry Cedar, Brad Dourif, Paula Malcomson, Leon Rippy, Titus Welliver, and Keone Young.
