An area of space immediately surrounding a temporal rift that protects anything in it from a change or alteration of the timeline. In 2373, a Borg cube attacking Earth released a sphere which created a temporal rift that took it back to mid 21st century Earth. The Enterprise-E, however, was caught in the temporal wake of the rift, and was able to follow the sphere through time and prevent the assimilation of humanity.
