Urrm... why didn't Starfleet use the Verteron Array to try and stop the Xindi Superweapon? It seems pretty powerful, since it could fire at the moon from Mars, and still create a crater, or fire at Earth and destroy buildings etc. This may be just because the writers made it up for these episodes. It would've been very useful as a first line of defense against almost any attacking army over the next couple of centuries, against the Dominion or even the Borg. Chances are, if it still existed, it would've been upgraded a number of times during that time. What does anyone else think? Zsingaya 20:31, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Maybe it was just not thought to be a weapon? Or still under construction? Because something wasn't mentioned does not mean that it was not planned. It's just spare speculation. : [defchris] :: [ talk ] : 16:43, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Just for fun I looked for a page, that can show the planet positions at a given date. I found one at http://www.fourmilab.ch/cgi-bin/Solar Entering the date of the Zero Hour episode (2154-02-14) shows, that Mars and Earth are pretty much 180° apart, having the Sun exactly between them. At the date of Demons (2155-01-19, no date given for the Terra Prime episode) the two planets are just some 30° apart, which is why the array could fire at the Moon and the Earth.

I think this is a nice explanation why it was not used against the Xindi weapon and no, I don't belive that any of the writers thought of those facts. 84.154.241.180 22:02, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I'd like to add that the episode Terra Prime specifically mentions that the targeting needs to be "refined" for the array to be "turn[ed] into a weapon". (around 7:40) 145.120.10.8 12:54, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

Removed Nitpick[]

Pseudohuman removed the following note:

  • It seems odd, that the verteron array, posing a destructive weapon, was not even mentioned as being considered to help defend Earth against the Xindi attack. However, it should be noted that the verteron beam probably only travels at the speed of light, and thus takes several minutes to reach Earth, making use against a mobile target problematic at best.
