They never say it was destroyed. They assume it was. Shouldn't the status be missing or presumed destroyed? (192.136.104.144 00:55, July 23, 2016 (UTC))

Source of ship's name Edit

it seems unlikely that the source of the ship name is the capital of Egypt. most of the other ships of class are named after historic ships, Starfleet or Naval (wet navy) officers, or explorers, so it doesn't seem to fit the admittedly loose naming convention. seems more likely that one of those sources provided the name - perhaps there was a dynasty of Starfleet officers in the 22d or early 23d century who made significant contributions - perhaps their family roots were in Egypt on Earth, resulting in their family surname. the Union Navy had an ironclad gunboat named CAIRO (after the city in Illinois, a county seat), but I can find no record of subsequent use of the name in the USN. not sure why the name would have been reused in the 23d century, but the raising of the ironclad hulk and integration into Vicksburg National Battlefield Park was a pretty cool story, and there might have been a Civil War buff among the writers ... --Beergeekjoey (talk) 13:27, July 29, 2016 (UTC)
