The 71620 looks far too advanced for a 23rd century vessel, so that speculation is a bit over the top IMO. --James Cody 18:34, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Agreed, I removed:
As we do not know the class of the NCC-2048 and registries have been known to change there remains a possiblity that it is the NCC-71620.
This is purely speculation on one person's part. It really doesn't fit into the realm of "background" info. --Alan del Beccio 00:48, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

In actual fact, Ahwahnee was the Miwok tribe's name for the Yosemite Valley and was usually translated into English as, "valley that looks like a gaping mouth."

When I wrote this, years ago, I couldn't find information about a Native American tribe named Ahwahnee. One of the reasons for that probably was that this wasn't the first name they called themselves. It's more like a second or third name for them. I have now corrected the background note.Throwback (talk) 06:15, August 11, 2014 (UTC)

Removed Edit

The Star Trek Encyclopedia stated that this ship was named for the Native American tribe Ahwahnee.

As far as I can recall, this ship was never mentioned in the Star Trek Encyclopedia. Throwback (talk) 12:05, August 12, 2014 (UTC)

It is in the encyclopedia (though you're right to remove uncited info), so I've put it back with an appropriate cite. -- Capricorn (talk) 09:16, August 15, 2014 (UTC)

The key word in the removed section is "this", as in referring to a specific object. I did't want it coming off sounding as though this ship was mentioned in the encyclopedia, for it didn't. The latter ship did make a mention. Throwback (talk) 11:36, August 15, 2014 (UTC)
