"...withstanding the pressure of 18,000 cubic feet of water..." This is a non-sequitor. "the pressure of 18,000 cubic feet of water" is meaningless from an Engineering or Scientific Standpoint, as the pressure generated by a volume of water is shape dependent. For example, if that volume of water is spread out over many acres, it would be 0 psi (pounds per square inch). If that volume were arranged in a column 1 foot square and 18,000 feet high, the pressure at the bottom would be about 8,400 psi.
