Rename to Spy satelliteEdit

There's a bunch of things wrong with this page, sugesting the "soviet spy satellite" is a specific entity that was invented by Paris and is entirely fictional. In reality, the "Soviet?" response by Rain to his claim should make it clear that spy satellites aren't so much the fictional issue as much as the fact as that it is supposed to be Soviet. Furthermore, if someone says "soviet spy satellite" then we shoudn't have a page named that any more then as we should have a page called "Klingon ship K'Phallic" when someone mentioned a Klingon ship with that name. Plus it shoudn't be classified as fictional without a common sense judgement that it is, which we know it isn't. I'd like to fix all those issues, but let's start with redefining this as a "spy satellite" that happens to be of Soviet origin.

Wouldn't it be better to name this page as "surveillance satellite"? After all, this term and "spy satellite" both refer to reconnaissance satellite. The term "surveillance satellite" has been used in Star Trek, in the episodes "Future's End", "Dragon's Teeth", and "Cease Fire".Lakenheath72 (talk) 08:31, April 6, 2015 (UTC)

Clever observation, but surveillance and spying are two different things (spying is illicit, surveillance might be done consentually) - not strict synonyms, so maybe it would be better not to conflate the two. I guess surveillance satellite does deserves to have a page too though. -- Capricorn (talk) 09:59, April 6, 2015 (UTC)

"Spy satellite" is the informal name for the surveillance satellite, also known as reconnaissance satellite. See on this page: KH-11 Keenan and USA-193. There is the link above to reconnaissance satellite. All are from Wikipedia. And, here is a page from about reconnaissance satellites [1]. The difference in language results in the fundamentally different mindsets between a civilian and a military servicemember.Lakenheath72 (talk) 03:10, April 9, 2015 (UTC)
I would support a rename to Spy satellite with a slight rewrite to make it clear the "Soviet spy satellite" was a type of spy satellite and in that instance was invented by Tom Paris. --| TrekFan Open a channel 21:23, April 9, 2015 (UTC)

The problem I'm worried about is that we also have mentions of "security satellite", "recon satellite", and "sentry satellite". That spy satellite = surveillance satellite is the strongest case among all these terms, but as for the rest, it becomes very messy and subjective what should be merged into what. Assuming characters know what they're talking about, presumably most if not all of these are supposed to be terms for subtly different things. -- Capricorn (talk) 12:39, April 10, 2015 (UTC)

I've renamed this; two people were in favor, and a side discussion didn't go anywhere -- Capricorn (talk) 16:37, April 19, 2015 (UTC)
