He dies in a fire, in 2371, of all times!Edit
Listen, if any good futurist knows how a fire department would respond in 2371, they would tell you that through a satellite or regional sensor, any fire department anywhere on Earth will know about a hazardous fire from anywhere in the world, the moment it happens. Those satellites and/or sensors would conduct realtime scans every second and notify the appropriate department the moment a hazard starts to occur.
Then once a fire department finds that a house fire is in progress (less than 5 seconds after it starts, or less than 30 seconds tops), they should beam out all occupants of the burning building 5-10 seconds after being made aware of the blaze. Preferably, they'd beam directly to an infirmary.
Once all of the occupants have rematerialized to safety, then the fire department's next proper course of action is to beam in ocean water (or water from a suitable source) onto the flames, thus accomplishing the mission up to one minute after the fire starts. (Or maybe fire suppressant chemicals will beam in instead of water if they'll quench the flames faster.)
So you see, I don't see how anyone can die of a house fire anymore by the 24th century! --188.8.131.52 13:25, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. it's logical. But unfortunately, it's all speculation. Heck, for all we know, the energy source exploded. Who knows. All we know for sure is that they died in a fire at the homestead. Nothing is known about Earth's emergency services. So, we can't speculate that in the article. Sorry. -- Sulfur 13:30, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
- Of course, Sulfur is right that we can't speculate... but I always assumed that the fire was able to spread because Robert refused to have modern technology in his house. If he objected to having a replicator, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that he would object to fire sensors. —Josiah Rowe 03:05, February 13, 2010 (UTC)
