- Hmm, I just looked into this. It seems like a toss up. I guess it all boils down to whether we want to assume it is the same person, since nothing contradicts it; or whether we want to assume it is not, because, as this disambiguation page indicates, the name is fairly commonplace. Unlike the case of Toran (2370 Gul) and Toran (2371 Gul), we saw the former one die, confirming that there was two. In the case of the two Captain Ramirezes, there is enough time between the first encounter with Ramirez (in "The Darkness and the Light" -- SD 50416.2) and the time of the launch of the Valiant on it's mission, which Ramirez commanded (in "Valiant", 8 months prior to 51825.4), to indicate that there was not a Ramirez in two places at one time, if indeed they are the same individual. So, perhaps, in the interest of keeping things neat and tidy, we just lump them together, and just note at the bottom of the page that they may be the same individuals, or they may not. However, since there is no contradiction to indicate otherwise, this article assumes they are the same person. Seems to me we have a few other articles sharing this clause. --Alan del Beccio 23:14, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I do not believe that these two Captains are the same person, although they share the same name. If we take the Stardate for the launch of the U.S.S. Valiant as hard evidence (49456.5) it would indicate that it was commissioned in mid-2372. As we know it underwent a three month training tour with Red Squad, it would have embarked very quickly after its launch; Watters says that the ship was caught behind the lines when the Dominion War began ("By Inferno's Light", Stardate 50564.2). This leaves no opportunity for the Valiant's Captain Ramirez to be at Starbase 63 playing tongo just before Stardate 50416.2 ("The Darkness and the Light"). It is my recommendation that there should be two separate entries for each Ramirez. 18.104.22.168 03:26, July 5, 2013 (UTC)
- Maybe the training tour took them past DS9(they were close enough to an area Nog & Jake visited by runabout) before the war. What you suggest is certainly possible, but as we have little hard evidence on how Stardates function in canon, we should just present the information in one page, much as we do with other minor characters such as Leslie who might also possibly be different people. 31dot (talk) 09:18, July 5, 2013 (UTC)
