It looks like the establishing shot for the Qu'Vat colony is a modification of the mesh for the Cygniai Expanse from (ENT: "Desert Crossing"). --The King In Shreds And Tatters 00:16, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Could it be, that "Korvat colony" mentioned on DS9: "Blood Oath" is actually Qu'Vat colony? After all, the pronunciation is nearly identical... --36ophiuchi 16:33, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Wondering about that myself. Is Korvat the "English" way of spelling the Klingon Qu'Vat, as Kronos = Qo'noS? Maybe someone well-versed in Klingon language would offer some insight. mythme70.44.66.241 01:32, September 16, 2010 (UTC)

The name Qu'vat is almost certainly a corruption of the Klingon curse Qu'vatlh. This is a common invective, and is present in Klingon vocabulary going all the way back to the first edition of The Klingon Dictionary, which the writers going back to TNG definitely referred to on occasion.

The change of tlh to t could have come simply from bad pronunciation-- tlh is one of the harder sounds to learn to make in Klingon-- or, a more amusing hypothesis is that the writers deliberately changed Qu'vatlh to Qu'vat in order to avoid swearing on TV (in the same way one might turn "damn" to "darn". {{:-) -- 03:43, August 26, 2013 (UTC)

As the writers often invented Klingon words on the fly as they needed them, that's speculation not suitable for the article. 31dot (talk) 09:17, August 26, 2013 (UTC)
