Photon grenades?Edit

Grenade launcher, 2267

James Kirk using photon grenades and mortar (2267).

Photon grenades can also be launched with a mortar, to attack an enemy hiding in a defensive position and out of direct line-of-sight. (TOS: "Arena")

Btw. where is the information from that these are Photon grenades? In the episode they are called simply grenades, my copy of the Encyclopedia doesn't mention them in the photon grenade entry. The novelization of the episode leaves them out completely. The closest thing to a reference I can come up with is a slightly ambiguous reference from the Star Fleet Intelligence Manual FASA source book that suggests the blue stuff is a "molded plasticene explosive". The Mr. Scott's Guide to the Enterprise notes that there are photon grenade mortars in the Enterprise's armory, but nothing is elaborated further. Is there a Fact Files entry where this information is from, or does a later edition of the Encyclopedia identify them? Or is this fanon? --Pseudohuman 03:27, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Nothing I can find either, unless the script mentions it, but judging from who added it, I don't think it was a script based addition, mostly likely here. --Alan 20:21, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

I have a faint recollection that the sound effect used for the grenade detonation was a reuse of the "phaser proximity blast firing/photon torpedo launch" sound effect. Maybe that is where the fanon originates from... --Pseudohuman 23:29, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

Could be. I'm actually going to move the above content over to grenade, seeing as it is already briefly touched upon in that article as is. --Alan 23:57, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
