Fanon Edit

Fandom sources place Pavel Chekov's birthplace as St. Petersburg/Leningrad.

Removed for being fanon (even self described). --OuroborosCobra talk 07:18, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Speculation Edit

  • It is possible that the city's name switched back to Leningrad, when the USSR was reformed. And, also possible that Chekov was just really bad at making up history (since the city was not called Leningrad for the first time yet when scotch was "invented" - in fact, the drink predates the existence of St. Petersburg/Lenningrad by at least 200 years). However, the 'Oblast,' or administrative region, surrounding the city of St. Petersburg is still called Leningrad.

Removed Edit

The city was named for the communist revolutionary Vladimir Lenin.

This was never stated in the canon.Lakenheath72 (talk) 22:17, January 31, 2015 (UTC)

You have a point of course, but that's a pretty slippery slope. Most of the articles on real-world stuff depend on the making of some absolute minimum of unmentioned connections to have anything to say at all. To give just one random example, by the same reasoning all one might be able to say about Jacqueline Kennedy is that she is some person that appeared on some photo, and in the time stream next to some guy called Lyndon B. Johnson in an unspecified context. -- Capricorn (talk) 23:09, January 31, 2015 (UTC)

In those instances, that is filling in vital information. Is it vital for the reader to know that the city was named after Lenin? If the reader is curious, they can check out the external link.Lakenheath72 (talk) 23:35, January 31, 2015 (UTC)

"Vital" is a a bit strong, but I'm inclined to argue that the removed info was desirable under the building the web guideline. If not perfectly fitting in the main text then in a background note. -- Capricorn (talk) 23:51, January 31, 2015 (UTC)

Move to Saint PetersburgEdit

Same argument as discussed here: the term Saint Petersburg was actually used in canon, and is more recent. -- Capricorn (talk) 23:03, March 11, 2015 (UTC)

It's not more recent in-universe though, or is it? - Archduk3 00:14, March 12, 2015 (UTC)

Yeah, I didn't think about that. Ok, forget about the rename, it should just stay at Leningrad. -- Capricorn (talk) 03:48, March 12, 2015 (UTC)
