Named after Edit
Invidium may be yet another anime inside joke on the series. It has been established that Rick Sternbach and Mike Okuda have often tried to work these references into the various Trek series. In this case, it may refer to the Invid, an alien race from the Robotech saga (specifically The New Generation aka Genesis Climber: Mospeada).--Julianbaischir 01:27, 1 February 2006 (UTC)
- I removed a comment added today offering a different explanation. We need something that can be cited - i.e. a comment from the writers on where they got the name:
- The real origin of the term "Invidium" comes from the latin name for "envy", one of the seven deadly sins.
Element or Substance? Edit
I don't think Invidium was referred to as an 'element', Geordi called it a 'substance'. Should this be listed as a chemical compound instead? 31dot 23:37, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
Just a guess Edit
I always thought that invidium was derived from the word invidious, despite the fact that the definitions of invidious don't exactly describe the effects of invidium upon the systems and objects aboard Enterprise. The closest sense of invidious to the action of invidium is "injurious"; however, that sense is more completely defined as "offensively or unfairly discriminating; injurious", which again isn't quite the same as the displayed action of the substance.

- Could be, but we don't put guesses in articles. We would need some evidence the writers knew about that.--31dot 08:36, October 29, 2010 (UTC)
