The Shape of thingsEdit

I noticed that the shape of the building shown on Geordis read-out resembles the building depicted on the cover of the book. Coincidence? Federation 23:37, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Why would it? It was based on the book after all... -- Sulfur 23:41, 3 February 2008 (UTC)

Removed comment Edit

Removed the following comment as speculative; while it is certainly possible, it should be cited to be in the article.

The title of the novel may be a reference to Casino Royale, the very first James Bond novel written by Ian Fleming in 1953.--31dot 16:31, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

The first time this first sentence was used was in Edward George Bulwer-Lytton's novel, Paul Clifford (1830), and it has been referred to since as the worst first sentence ever written.

While I don't disagree with the removal, could you supply a reason for its removal? --From Andoria with Love 04:42, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I think it should be restored as a background comment, considering the many references in this article and the episode to the story being very cliche and poorly written. Setacourse 03:49, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
We would need some hard evidence that the writers had that in mind, no matter how accurate that might be.--31dot 11:22, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
The opening sentence quotes the infamously bad first sentence in Edward George Bulwer-Lytton's novel, Paul Clifford (1830). (Quotable Star Trek, p. 334) link to page
As for it being infamously bad, there's an annual writing contest for worst opening sentences named after the author. [1]Setacourse 20:22, December 5, 2009 (UTC)
The Quotable Star Trek reference works, so I added it to the page. So long as it's not just "some fans" speculating a reference, it's okay.– Cleanse 00:49, December 6, 2009 (UTC)
Noted and thank you. Setacourse 17:29, December 6, 2009 (UTC)
