Can we get a screencap of the actual cylinders? --OuroborosCobra 03:38, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Here are a couple:

Would it be ok if we replaced the image on this page of the Harvester symbol with that first one of the cylinder, as it already includes the picture of the symbol? --OuroborosCobra 03:56, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Hold off for a bit. I've got a few things to add and then we might get away with 2 pics. Probably could now. I'll try for 3, and if not maybe we can just gallery all 3 of them across the bottom. --Bp 21:31, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

Why not use the sun?Edit

So, why couldn't they just launch the remaining harvesters into their sun and slaughter the scientists? – 07:12, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Because they needed to pretend that they had peacefully disposed of the weapons, which in doing so accidentally killed the scientists. It's not explicitly stated in the episode, but it really seems that only the high-ranking officials (and a few soldiers) know of the plot to kill all scientists involved, not the general public. The public would probably be suspicious if after launching the weapons into the sun all scientists involved "disappeared". The way it happens in the episode, it's a good excuse for the governments to get a lot of scientists with knowledge of the harvesters in one ship and suffer a fatal "accident".
Also, getting O'Brien and Bashir involved offers a chance to improve relations with the Federation, the largest local power. Shooting them into the sun wouldn't do that.
And finally, shooting stuff into the sun may annoy environmentalists of the future. We don't know exactly how many harvesters there were and what else they contained. I highly doubt they would do anything, but you never know in Trek.
So it's all an issue of PR ;-)– Cleanse 07:30, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
I was just about ask this. As with many things in trek, its up to the viewer to make their own conclusions for plot hole. could that even the inferno of a sun could destroy it. Remember that the plasma plague couldn't be vented into space as it could still infect a planet.
If the canisters are all destoyed you also eliminate the evidence the harvesters are gone. What is someone beamed it away at the last moment. Or swapped it out with a fake. By simply irradiating and killing the virus you can present each neutralized canister as proof its been eliminated.--LordVukodlak 04:16, April 28, 2012 (UTC)
