HMAV[]

This might be a stupid question but where does the prefix "HMAV" come from (in Star Trek, that is)? I'm aware what it means but I don't recall hearing it mentioned in "Year of Hell" which is the reference it gives. --| TrekFan Open a channel 00:17, February 26, 2011 (UTC)

I've tagged this as inaccurate until the prefix issue is settled. I stopped short of moving this back simply due to unfamiliarity with said issue, though I would support any other admin that may move it back because the name change wasn't actually discussed. - Archduk3 04:32, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
'In universe' the ship was HMS, as that's what it's Klingon namesake is called (rather than HMAV). Historically, the abbreviations 'HMS' and 'HMAV' had yet to be coined in 1789, when the mutiny occurred, although official records from the time call it both 'His Majesty's Ship the Bounty' and 'His Majesty's Armed Vessel the Bounty'. Most modern works refer it as 'HMS Bounty' - as did Dr. McCoy. Catiline63 (talk) 11:32, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
Maybe it would be worth adding a note on the page regarding the HMS/HMAV issue, for clarification? Catiline63 (talk) 11:34, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
Please note that we don't care what it was called in the "real world", nor do we care what it is called on Wikipedia, as we only care what it was referred to in the films and television shows. -- sulfur (talk) 13:05, January 11, 2014 (UTC)
Which is why I changed it from HMAV to HMS - as that's what it's referred to in STIV. Thanks. Catiline63 (talk) 23:05, January 12, 2014 (UTC)
Out-of-universe notes are in a lot of articles. Why not this one? 72.200.151.13 21:07, December 16, 2014 (UTC)
