I can't imagine that the Grizzelans didn't exist...if they didn't, the Shelliak would have likely known it and demanded that Picard name another race to arbitrate.

The Sheliak didn't know who they were, anyway... didn't seem to matter much. --From Andoria with Love 00:06, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
But it seems rather out of character for Picard to essentially lie to the Sheliak to get what he wanted, especially after his big speech in "The First Duty". Tiberius 10:04, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I am going to remove the note flat out. What, just because we don't see a race we are now going to question whether they really exist? You know how many races that would apply to? Picard said they exist, and we have zero reason to believe they do not exist. --OuroborosCobra talk 18:50, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
For the record, the note was added based on Picard's brief pause (as though he was thinking of a name) and the reaction of Riker and the Sheliak, who appear to have never heard of such a species. --From Andoria with Love 20:38, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
I always took that to be a dramatic pause, leaving the Sheliak hanging before he reveals to them the cleverness of his plan. besides, the sheliak would have raised hell if picard was lying, and they certainly would have checked out his story if they hadn't heard of the grizellas.
