I removed the following personal note, as articles aren't the place for this sort of thing. --From Andoria with Love 06:28, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- Such a device appears to be implausible. A unit that is required to perform the functions of a transporter would need to remain in a solid state to dematerialize, store, transmit and reconstitute anything, could not itself be dematerialized without removing a way for a transported item to be rematerialized. It is much more likely that the Emergency Transporter unit contains automated transporter control circuirty designed to automate the return the target to it's mothership.
- It's valid speculation and should remain in the article. Speculation exists in every other article.
There really shouldn't be any speculation on MA, except perhaps when absolutely necessary to explain an apparent contradiction (none exists here) – and even then it should be brief and to the point. --From Andoria with Love 07:22, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
Who invented this? Edit
Someone just removed from the article the bit about the ETU being invented by La Forge and Data; while I don't recall that it was in the movie, and it isn't in whatever draft version of the script is on Trekcore, I could have sworn I heard something to that effect somewhere. Can anyone confirm this? -Mdettweiler 05:37, February 23, 2010 (UTC)
- When Data first shows it he says "Geordi supplied me with the prototype for the emergency transport unit" but he doesn't say anything about who invented it.--31dot 12:11, February 23, 2010 (UTC)
