Ship-wide diagnostics
When a ship-wide diagnostic was run aboard the Enterprise-D, did Data get the works as well? During one such diagnostic a dekyon field modulation was found in his positronic subprocessors, suggesting Data got treated like a piece of the ship in such circumstances. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Archer4real (talk • contribs).
- Hi, in "Cause and Effect", the shipwide diagnostic took place after they already knew that the dekyon field was involved with the anomalies they were experiencing. The field itself is actually not part of the ship, so it's not surprising that they found a localized modulation in Data while diagnosticating the ship with a particular focus on dekyon phenomena. --TribbleFurSuit 19:12, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Significance of Level
It's not clear to me from this article what the significance in each level of diagnostic is. i.e. Is a level 1 the most thorough and it scales down, or vice versa? Or are different levels not sequential and a different level simply indicates a different type?
- According to the Technical Manual, Level 5 diagnostics are routine, automated, and nearly instantaneous. Level 1 diagnostics require crew members to individual inspect the results of every test and takes hours. How closely writers adhered to these guidelines is questionable. Level 1 diagnostic
"A Level 1 diagnostic is a troubleshooting/test series that requires taking the associated system off-line."
In "Masks" data states he needs a Level 1 diagnostic. Later when the tests are being run Data is full conscious which would indicate to me that his systems are not offline.
